Bitcoin is officially recognized as a means of payment for the first time. What does it mean?

On June 9, El Salvador's parliament passed a law that gave bitcoin the official status of a means of payment. In the near future, the document will be signed by President Nayib Bukele. The authorities of El Salvador will have 90 days after the entry into force of the law to create the appropriate infrastructure.

Acceptance of bitcoins for payment will become mandatory in the country. Cryptocurrency will be legal tender on a par with the US dollar, the head of El Salvador emphasized.

After bitcoin was given the status of payment instrument in El Salvador, the main cryptocurrency grew by 5%, and its capitalization increased to $643 billion, according to CoinGecko.

It's very interesting to see Walmart's CTO recognise the potential impact of cryptocurrencies on the future of commerce. I completely agree that they will be a major disruptor, especially in the area of payment methods for both virtual and physical goods. In fact, I recently experienced first-hand how easy and straightforward it is to use cryptocurrencies for transactions. I ordered a suit from a London boutique through their made to measure suit and paid with bitcoin. The process was incredibly simple and I didn't have to deal with the hassle of traditional payment methods. Plus, the benefits of using bitcoin, such as low transaction fees and faster processing times, made it even more appealing. It's exciting to see how cryptocurrencies will continue to revolutionise the way we buy and sell goods in the future!
