Range finder dusk/dawn mode

So I just got the halo X-ray800. Works amazing so far and was dead accurate. The only question I have is does anyone know how twilight/dawn mode works? Is it automatic or do I have to do something to enable it? I tried this when it started to get dark on the tree, and I couldn't see the numbers because they were displayed in black. So what I did was the true movement of the tree towards the sky at that time, and I could see it. He didn't come with any instructions, so I'm just wondering if there's something I'm missing.

That mode is just a red spot.

I had a Halo X-Ray 800 Laser Rangefinder and it was working really good for me, but it once I dropped it and it broke. It was my fault so I bought another one and it worked great, but I am clumsy and I dropped that one also and it broke too. I know that it was my fault but I needed something a little bit more durable and that is why I got ATN rangefinder. They are selling them for really good prices and the quality is the best. I have dropped it a few times and it is like nothing has happened to it, works like it was it's first day.
