BRIB, a blockchain-based reward system for internet browsing developed by WhatTheHack!, won first place at DECENT‘s seventh instance of the Blockchain Pioneers Hackathon series, directed in cooperation with SP Jain School of Management. The competitive event took place for the full duration of two days, from Friday, May 3, until Sunday, May 5. Other projects delivered blockchain solutions such as enhanced medical delivery in developing countries, and a revamp system for small and medium enterprises.

The first place winners were awarded 100,000 DCT (currently ~$10,000) and professional mentoring from the experts at DECENT to further progress the project toward becoming a viable solution. The project, designated as WhatTheHack!, was developed by Jit Ooi, Justin Ong, Richard Ng, Wendy Yong, and Gerald Tan. The team of young developers saw concern with websites “pushing out adverts indiscriminately by using banner ads, malicious scripts, and intrusive-in-your-face adverts, for users, publishers, and advertisers,” as stated in the team’s project pitch presented at the hackathon.

The team aims to tackle these issues by utilizing an active opt-in reward Chrome-based browser extension built with DECENT’s DCore blockchain, able to block off trackers and institute adblockers to prevent intrusions, resulting in enhanced user experience. This would be utilized through a browser extension that would reward users for watching relevant advertisements, while also integrating any websites to reward their viewers per ad-view....

DECENT, the international company behind the DCore blockchain technology, today releases the first major update to its wallet ecosystem since launch. The highlights include a massive reduction in the fees paid for transactions, the capability to make payments with custom tokens, account creation via mobile devices, several UI improvements, bug fixes, and other changes.

The general wallet ecosystem has received an 80% fee reduction for all performed transactions, with a downturn from 0.005 DCT (~$0.0005) to 0.001 DCT (~$0.0001) per transaction. In addition to DCT, this small fee can now be paid with DCore’s custom tokens (e.g. ALX), depending on the user’s preference.

The web wallet, introduced as the original component in DECENT’s wallet ecosystem, gains an improved UI and reworked coding for faster navigation and enhanced user experience as well as the option to use custom tokens to pay for transaction fees. Similarly to the mobile version, the web wallet also carries numerous bug fixes and improvements....

Team Blockget was named the winner of DECENT’s challenge at the HackXLR8 hackathon event which took place 12–13 June in London, United Kingdom. The team secured second place overall and won DECENT’s blockchain challenge by delivering a project that would ensure dematerialisation and elimination of paper documents and storage on blockchain using IPFS via DECENT’s DCore platform.

The hackathon, carrying the name HackXLR8 2019, was part of London Tech Week which was opened by the Prime Minister, Theresa May, on Monday 10 June. Contestants had the option to choose from three leading technological spheres: AI, IoT (Internet of Things), and blockchain.

Project Blockget’s solution exhibited an easy way to scan documents and avoid purposeless paper concentration. Thanks to DECENT DCore’s native integration of IPFS (a P2P file storage network) and NFTs (non-fungible tokens), the team conditioned the realisation of the idea by using three simple steps: scanning a file via a template inside the Blockget mobile app, permanently storing the file through IPFS, and assigning a unique ID via DCore....

Charity Game Freeyourmine Fights Against Landmin Remnants with Blockchain:

Charity crypto game, Freeyourmine, will be battling against explosive remnants of war (ERWs) through blockchain. The team presented their project at Techstars Startup Weekend which took place in Moscow, Russia, on June 14–16, winning DECENT‘s DCore Challenge.

The Russian team, led by founders Mikhail Chernogorov and Andrey Rutkevich, claims that according to unofficial estimates, 50,000 km2 of the planet is covered by minefields, making up for 110 million mines still buried in the ground. The team calls attention to the number of people injured from these mines, raising up to 15,000 per year, with 40% of the affectees being children.

The team has created a charity-oriented game, Freeyourmine, resembling the old-school classic, Microsoft Minesweeper, fitted to utilize the enhancements provided by blockchain technology with one massive difference—players get to pick mines in real life....

Blockchain company DECENT today released a mandatory update 1.4.0 to its proprietary DCore blockchain platform. The major update introduces several new features, including the integration of non-fungible tokens (NFT), easier installation and upgrading of DCore nodes as well as an increase in the limit of co-authors supported in the revenue splitting functionality (now up to 10,000 co-authors).

According to DECENT’s release notes, the update resourcefully integrates a technology known as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) inside the DCore ecosystem. Non-fungible tokens—a virtually fresh addition to the blockchain scene—are tokens which actualize exclusive digital assets.

Unlike custom tokens, which can be also created on DCore (equivalent to Ethereum’s ERC-20), each non-fungible token is thoroughly unique and represents a particular asset which is unable to be replaced by another token. These tokens have, so far, been predominantly used in crypto gaming, mostly known as “crypto collectibles,” homologous to the thought-provoking blockchain game, CryptoKitties. Their usage may be further extended to creating unique tickets, passes, validations, ID cards, and game items inside the blockchain landscape....
