Verify your identity for "free" Stellar Lumens?
« on: April 18, 2019, 06:39:12 PM »
This morning I received an email from Blockchain.info that congratulates me about a $50 giveaway. The catch is it requires identity verification at their website. What are your thoughts about this offer? Is it really "free" crypto-currency if they want to track the recipient of the crypto-gift? What are the extent the identity verification?

They have done this promotion before, i think when they launched their wallet. That was last year? I think they are a party you can trust, but i also do not like to send my documents for kyc. And be sure that they are not faling you to a different website to steal your data and documents.

Does the email really come from Blockchain platform? I think you need to analyze the senders and check whether the information correct or not by asking to telegram channel or see the website announcement. There are too many fraudsters now, be careful of each offers that try to take your personal data. There are many cases that selling people's personal data.

Thank you for the online security warning Redix!  The email came from [email protected]. I investigated their website, blockchain.com where I do not see an area that says they offer $50 of free XLM.

This reminds me of how Coinbase Earn offered $50 of free XLM to members. To receive the free XLM members had to watch informational videos about XLM and complete quizzes.  I signed up for the free $50 at Coinbase Earn but regrettably Coinbase did not allow me access to those quizzes. Coinbase has me waiting in line to take the quizzes.

The two websites could be in cahoots?

2x fold prizes from last year, my KYC app last year was awarded XLM worth 25 $, if it's true of the blockchain it doesn't hurt you try to open his wallet to find the truth. But I recommend using a link that is not in your email

It is true and there are some people I know already received it but it was only $25, it is the first time to see $50 number so make sure that the legit blockchain is the people sending you the email it can very easily be a fishing mail because as I said I know that the free money is just $25, not $50.

They are centralized exchanges under the supervision of the government. So it's natural that they ask for an identity

But those who have already received their reward has been getting a lot of problems in the verification process.
Basically, rather than throw my personal ID for a few bucks of stellar and i would like to throw my personal ID to get the privacy coin for free like veil. It's much better rather than stellar is trying to develop a new privacy coin that makes sure our identity will be safe and it's much better even than monero but veil is totally undervalued coin right now.

This case reminds me of the fact about the vision of the blockchain to provide privacy to the users is already gone.

I logged in to my account with blockchain.com and tried to claim the free Stellar.  In the Personal Details section it stopped me with this:
"Unfortunately Swap is not available in your state at this time.
We will notify you when we expand to your area."

Many airdrops are asking for kyc. I only give it to trusted exchanges.

~snip~ "Unfortunately Swap is not available in your state at this time. We will notify you when we expand to your area."

It seems the program is still not available for your country. You are from USA, right? It seems USA is restricted from participating in the program right now. Just wait for further information when the team allows your country to participate.

Every time you spread your documents over the internet (but also in real world) you put your identity at risk of being impersonated for god knows what kind of malicious activities.

Although some sites can be definite "enough trusted" remember there's never a 0 risk. There's always the possibility they get hacked or that an employee sell their data for money. Happened to many top companies, will happen again. Remember the Sony hack? It put 77 millions customers at risk in a single shot....
