  • Cryptocurrencies Continue Expanding in Both Slovenia and Croatia via Bitcoin City Growth

Virtual currencies have expanded all over the world, including in Slovenia and Croatia. Now, the number of firms that are accepting cryptocurrencies in the region is also growing. After reaching shipping centres, Elipay is now moving forward and integrating around 300 stores in Slovenia. In the near future, it can reach Croatia after the central bank’s approval.

    Slovenian Stores Embrace Virtual Currencies
Cryptocurrency adoption continues to grow in Europe. Croatia and Slovenia are starting to increase their presence in the market by adding new merchants to the crypto space. Elipay is a cryptocurrency payment mobile application that allows stores to start accepting Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and also ELI Tokens.

In a recent conversation with Bitcoin.com, Eligma’s CEO, Dejan Roljic, explained that they have reached 300 locations in Slovenia. Just 100 of them are located in the Bitcoin City in Slovenia. Eligma is the company behind the Elipay application.

Eligma explains that they use Bitcoin City as a centre since it is one of the largest and most important commercial and shopping areas in Central Europe. There are 500 different shops in the so-called BTC City.

About the growth of their network, Roljic mentioned:

“The number of Elipay locations is constantly increasing. Elipay now covers most service and product categories: food and drinks, fashion, electronics, services, sports and leisure, entertainment, home and garden, toys and kids, pets, auto and moto, travel, adult, online stores, and other.”

At the same time, the Bank of Slovenia has also decided to add euro value into Elipey using credit or debit cards. The intention is to move forward and enter the Croatian market. A few days ago, the Croatian National Bank has approved Elipay and it can now operate in the country.

Roljic said that hey will be testing their expansion model and that they will be analyzing the effect virtual currencies will have in the first 20 stores. If the testing is successful and they make such a decision, they will be moving ahead by integrating over 200 stores in Croatia by the end of the current year.

Back in 2018, Croatia announced that it had a new self-regulatory body known as UBIK and that was going to be working in order to regulate the virtual currency space. This came after several scams spread in the market after the Initial Coin Offering (ICO) craziness experienced at the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018.
