How AI is making e-commerce smarter
« on: July 27, 2018, 11:26:33 AM »
A few decades into researching and developing, it is only recently that AI became a common term in applying new technology to business. According to Gartner’s market researches, the company has predicted that, by 2020, Artificial Intelligence will be in the Top 5 prior technology of more than 20% IT Executives from the largest Tech companies all over the globe.

What is Artificial Intelligence
The concept of Artificial Intelligence or AI is different throughout the time, but the core meaning has never changed. AI, a term belongs to computer science, is simply understood as a human-like machine, an intelligence demonstrated by ICs and codes. These AI are capable of creative thinking, interpretation, rational reasoning, learning, problem-solving, adapting to the environment, and communicating. Except for the shells, AI is becoming more and more “human”, from actions to the mind.

While some giants of the Internet such as Pinterest, Google, and Bing, have deployed image search, or the king of e-commerce Amazon has poured their money into developing devices integrated virtual voice assistants like “smart speaker” Echo, the no.1 social media Facebook chooses a different path by investing in AI. Facebook uses AI to detect signs of unstable emotion or mentality of its users.

The wide acceptance of AI in various areas, especially in e-commerce, has tacitly determined the domination of this technology in the coming years. The followings are the utilities of AI in e-commerce.

One of the pioneers in this matter is a luxury retailer from the USA - Neiman Marcus. The retail chain has developed its own image search engine integrated into a shopping app called “Snap.Find.Shop”. This special feature allows users to find products from their store by taking a picture and search for it.
In voice search
Along with image search, voice search is also a new prominently feature, allowing users to search certain keywords or to place an order on an e-commerce site by using their voices.

Voice search is increasingly becoming more preferable thanks to the development of virtual assistants like Amazon’s Alexa or Apple’s Siri. Still, to truly dominate the market and set up a solid foundation for future progression, voice search need more than just a few updates. Also, Retailers themselves have to think twice before integrating the feature as it is not meant for every web platform.
Smart marketing strategy
The key advantage of applying AI in e-commerce is the outcomes of effective market strategies based on customer’s behaviors analysis. Before the existence of AI, retailers used market forecasting, a common decision-making tool, to plan their marketing campaigns. Yet, the process is time-consuming and its accuracy and reliability are still in doubt. AI will make this process an effortless job.
