Well, first they need to get smartphones/computers and internet there in the poorer parts... but once they do, I can see bitcoin being very useful in Africa. Just one of many reasons we believe that bitcoin will be very successful in the future.

I agree, but the remittance industry is a huge  opportunity for the bitcoin ecosystem in Africa. That is why we are working on a wallet for Africa see Bitsoko.co.ke this will come in handy so you can send money directly to a person as long as you have his/her Bitsoko username, we make it as simple as possible . No public keys and no QRC code  just your username.

Also smartphone Penetration in Africa is fairly low and I think the saying "its the smartest people in the room who will benefit the most" applies here in Africa as well.

    I agree with you. Digital currency can have great opportunities in developing countries where low cost micro-transactions are a killer application. As far as I know the mobile phone devices penetration is good (no idea about the status of the mobile network itself) and those price are anyway going go down day after day...
