You should watch the Ethereum 2.0 Validators Overview on this site -
https://ethscan.org/validators
all the information is conveniently collected in a table there. You can also find many other indicators and tools for working with Ethereum. This is very convenient.

So I have $6500 sitting in the stock market index funds right now and I was wondering if it'd be worth it to liquidate and try to get the minimum 32 eth to become a validator node - what are some risks / rewards of doing that? A lot of the articles I've read have talked about how being a validator node works but not the pros/cons so I was wondering what you guys think.
