Paris-based startup tests Lightning Network on Litecoin:



Paris-based startup has successfully tested Lightning software on Litecoin. ACINQ, French project devoted to bitcoin solutions, has implemented a Lightning network using Scala, a general purpose programming language. On the 25th of April the company announced on the successful test of Lightning software called  Eclair within the Litecoin ecosystem.

Charlie Shrem jumps on the bandwagon with BU skeptics:



One more member in the team of Bitcoin Unlimited skeptics. Charlie Shrem, bitcoin pioneer and entrepreneur, in his recent tweet stated, that Bitcoin Unlimited is “nowhere near production ready”. Notably, he urged the community to activate Segregated Witness and then revisit larger blocks.

Ex-Coinbase engineer launches Ethereum search engine:



Antonio Juliano announced the launch of Weipoint, a search engine for the decentralized web. Weipoint can be used to search for and interact with Ethereum smart contracts. According to Juliano, Weipoint will eventually act as a decentralized application browser as well, with planned functionality for other ethereum-based resources. The project is set to act as a mean to verify the code underlying smart contracts.

The market capitalization of Lykke coins has increased from 1.5 million dollars to over 20 million dollars just in two weeks. Lykke coin has added 190 new coinholders from April 11 to April 24. There are 350 coinholders that has increased their Lykke holdings in the corresponding period. On the other side there are 72 coinholders with negative change of the inventory. Lykke plans to launch the first products in payments space, including credit cards, POS/ATM, eCommerce, peer-to-peer payments and more. The short term plan is to enhance the settlement process and do most of the settlement offchain in the state channels, with guaranteed mechanisms to protect both the client and the exchange.

Spotify enters the digital age:



Music industry giant takes over the blockchain startup. Spotify, Sweden-based music streaming service, acquired blockchain startup Mediachain. Team of the startup will be joining Spotify in its offices in New York, while it turns over its technologies to the open source software community, keeping all source code and documentation open source and openly licensed. According to the blogpost published by Mediachain, companies will be joining hands in order to establish "a more fair, transparent, and rewarding music industry for creators and rights owners".

JPMorgan Chase & Co leaves blockchain consortium R3. JP Morgan has officially exited the global bank consortium led by distributed ledger startup R3.  The exit is notable as JP Morgan was among the initial group of banks to join the consortium, launched as a collaborative effort between institutions through which they tested a number of applications.

Norway may create new anonymous cryptocurrency:



Norway’s central bank is researching the issuance of a digital currency. Norges Bank’s deputy governor Jon Nicolaisen said that private digital currencies providing anonymity are already on the market. These currencies can also be used even if banks’ systems fail – as long as the Internet is still functioning. This led Norges Bank to consider new options, such as the issuance of a digital currency through which consumers could hold an account at the central bank. Another proposal is the introduction of an app that would enable anonymous, cash-like payments.

Hacker leaks Netflix new season data:



Hacker group The Dark Overlord has leaked the first ten episodes of the new season of Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black. They made it following Netflix’s alleged ‘unresponsiveness’ to the ransom request. The hacker had put forth a demand of 50 Bitcoin from Netflix to prevent the leak. The group has now threatened to make other shows available for torrent. They claim to have hundreds of gigabytes of unreleased and non-public media from networks including FOX, IFC, NAT GEO and ABC.

The Merkle: Foxminers exposed?



Mining manufacturer had been exposed by the cryptocurrency publication the Merkle. Foxminers, California-based company that supposedly builds and sells mining devices, claims to provide a miner with proprietary chips they created that can mine both Bitcoin’s algorithm as well as litecoin’s scrypt. After the investigation made by the Merkle, Foxminers were accused of being a scum in the few articles published by the news outlet.

Lockheed Martin to incorporate blockchain:



The world’s largest defense contractor adopts blockchain. According to the press-release, that has recently appeared on the official website of Lockheed Martin, company is the first US defense contractor to incorporate blockchain technology into its development processes, promising increased efficiency in its operations with the US federal government. The defense contractor has partnered with Guardtime, a Virginia-based collective of cryptographers, developers and security researchers that claims to be the “world’s largest blockchain company by revenue, headcount and actual customer deployments.”

WINGS token is finally launched.
