Almost all other coins are just paint jobs or tweaks on bitcoin. These guys built completely new code with a single focus on optimizing for a specific use - business data management. They are following a good strategy: pick one important thing and be the best at it.

Bitcoin is a technology-driven, borderless world currency. Bitcoin’s blockchain technology open-source code makes all transactions transparent, immutable and irrevocable. Changes in the blockchain cannot occur without being exposed.

Crypto Discussion / Re: Fight Traffic Jams with Blockchain Technology
« on: July 01, 2017, 07:52:36 AM »
Smart! Bitcoin and its blockchain technology are uniquely situated to play a vital role in helping developers and entrepreneurs to come up with innovative solutions to alleviate traffic congestion. Bitcoin’s blockchain technology in combination with ride-sharing and driverless vehicles will dramatically change urban transportation, by creating a variety of new and previously unimagined solutions aimed at eradicating once and for all the scourge of traffic jams.

As I hear blockchain-based Transactive Grid provides real-time metering of local energy production and usage and other relevant data, allowing users to trade energy on this platform openly. This project, which started in a Brooklyn neighborhood, in New York, has now attracted the interest of tech giant Siemens.

In terms of adoption, Woo expects a classic S-shaped curve as a trend for Bitcoin, like for other innovative technologies such as radio, computers and the Internet.

Crypto Discussion / Re: Real vs digital
« on: July 01, 2017, 07:23:15 AM »
Digital currencies are exactly what they sound like: currencies stored and transferred electronically. Any money based in 1’s and 0’s meets this definition; dollars stored in a bank account are supposed to be a representation of dollars actually held somewhere, whereas physical bitcoins are a representation of their digital counterparts. One could argue that our increasingly cashless society means that all currencies are becoming digital, but they are not presented to us as such. Real digital currencies have been around for some time. One of the first was E-gold, founded in 1996 and backed by gold. Another known digital currency exchange was Liberty Reserve, founded in 2006; it let users convert dollars or euros to Liberty Reserve Dollars or Euros, and exchange them freely with one another at a 1% fee. Both services were centralized, reputed to be used for money laundering, and inevitably shut down by the US government. Online payment services like PayPal function similarly, based on traditional currency, except with more restrictions and government compliance (ensuring their survival).

Crypto Discussion / Re: How to make my LTC secure with a wallet?
« on: June 29, 2017, 08:08:59 PM »
You really need a hardware wallet, I personally use a Trezor, it's very secure and even supports the new Segwit p2sh addresses so you can be on the cutting edge.

I have lost a little bit of the three bitcoins already by playing around with the bitcoin client; I hacked it to try to send out thousands of transactions to see if I could DOS the network, just for fun, and the 0.5 bitcoin I had in that wallet is probably gone forever since the client choked completely and mucked up the wallet file so badly that I am not sure it's recoverable.  Well I am sure it is but I don't think I'll ever bother to spend the time necessary to recover that 0.5 bitcoin.
In the intervening months my enthusiasm for bitcoin has waned considerably.  While it is a cool concept and well thought-out, the implementation leaves alot to be desired.  I think that Satoshi should have made a much more robust piece of software before unleashing it prematurely on the world.  As it is, there are so many technical limitations and difficulties with using bitcoin, mostly due to the immaturity of the software, that it's hard to believe that it will ever gain major traction. I think that as long as bitcoin can be used for transactions in which pseudo-anonymity has extreme value (e.g. buying illegal goods), there will be a positive pressure on the value of bitcoin.  But I don't ever expect it to 'take over the world' or to make up a significant fraction of any financial transactions.  There are just too many other financial instruments with built-in advantages over bitcoin as well as having decades/centuries of a head start.

One of them is Zcash and Dash.
Zcash, a decentralized and open-source cryptocurrency launched in the latter part of 2016, looks promising. “If Bitcoin is like http for money, Zcash is https," is how Zcash defines itself. Zcash offers privacy and selective transparency of transactions. Thus, like https, Zcash claims to provide extra security or privacy where all transactions are recorded and published on a blockchain, but details such as the sender, recipient, and amount remain private. Zcash offers its users the choice of ‘shielded’ transactions, which allow for content to be encrypted using advanced cryptographic technique or zero-knowledge proof construction called a zk-SNARK developed by its team. (Related reading, see: What Is Zcash?)

Dash
Dash (originally known as Darkcoin) is a more secretive version of Bitcoin. Dash offers more anonymity as it works on a decentralized mastercode network that makes transactions almost untraceably. Launched in January 2014, Dash experienced an increasing fan following in a short span of time. This cryptocurrency was created and developed by Evan Duffield and can be mined using a CPU or GPU. In March 2015, ‘Darkcoin’ was rebranded to Dash, which stands for Digital Cash and operates under the ticker – DASH. The rebranding didn't change any of its technological features such as Darksend, InstantX. (Related reading, see: Top Alternative

Trading / Re: Best exchange to buy Ripple in Canada?
« on: June 29, 2017, 07:50:16 PM »
I use Coinbase or Gemini to purchase BTC/ETH and then transfer to Kraken to buy XRP's.
My first XRP purchase though was via CAD wire transfer into Kraken. It took approx seven business days to be deposited since Krakens bank is in Japan, and TD charged me a $30 fee. The wire transfer is safe and it works, but is archaic.

I guess very good thing about the Monaco VISA® Card is that you can use at more than 30 millions shops worldwide; wherever VISA cards are accepted, both online and offline. It is very useful especially when you are traveling abroad because you can exchange your digital currencies in the local fiat currency. In fact, you can pay anywhere VISA® cards are accepted. Your card will always be treated as a local currency card, you will receive interbank exchange rates without any markup and cross-border fees.

It is not correct to write in 20 years or 30. It depends on many factors and including on the influence of government and laws.
