Crypto Discussion / Use wallets where you control private keys
« on: July 15, 2019, 01:11:18 PM »
"Not your keys, not your funds", that is usually the advise given to many newbies storing their assets on exchanges. Apparently, there are some mobile wallet providers that controls the private keys like FreeWallet. Using such wallet is just as bad as storing on exchanges because they can also hold your funds whenever they desire and there's nothing you can do but to comply with whatever requirements they need. Your assets may still be released but imagine the inconvenience and the lost opportunities.

It is preferred to use wallets where you control the private key.

Crypto Discussion / What is your take on shilling?
« on: July 08, 2019, 03:24:41 PM »
We have already seen in the past that some influencers have used this method already to pump their bags then dump to their followers that is why when we see/read someone shilling a coin or token, the usual reaction for most of us is to avoid it. But what if what's being shilled is also one of your bags? Would you say that it is bad and people should avoid it? I guess not.

I think many of the top cryptos today (even bitcoin) has been shilled at some point. This makes shilling not necessarily a bad thing. So what should be done when we see a coin/token being shilled? You can either ignore or dig deeper and see what makes it unique (and profitable).

Opinions?

Crypto Discussion / The Changing Method Of Token Sales
« on: July 05, 2019, 10:21:00 AM »
When a certain model goes out of favor, something new comes out. In the case of token sales, it started with ICOs then comes STOs. A few months later, some people are rushing to join the IEO craze. Just when I thought I've heard it all, two new models came out. Just today, I read about STEO (Security Token Exchange Offering) and OEO (Order Book Exchange Offering).

I appreciate the effort of these people to bring something new to the market but all these looks the same to me. Just a change in how it's being packaged.

What do you guys think will be next?

  • You might end up holding dead coins if the project gets abandoned
  • You might miss swaps and end up holding worthless tokens
  • Delisting of coin/token and you miss the withdraw period (in case you store coins/tokens on exchanges)

Take time to follow news/updates on the coins/tokens you invested to minimize the above listed risks. Checking up their telegram/discord/social media once or twice a month will help.

Useful Cryptocurrency Resources / Websites For Crypto Market Watch
« on: June 25, 2019, 06:10:17 PM »
Many are already familiar with COINMARKETCAP but not many are familiar with other sites that are also used for monitoring the market. Many serious traders use these alternative sites because they believe they present more reliable data than CMC.

Here are some of them:

WORLDCOININDEX

Out of the websites listed above, my preference is Nomics.
Do you know of any other websites that monitors the crypto market? If yes, then comment it below.

Crypto Discussion / Some countries are moving backwards?
« on: June 10, 2019, 09:31:41 AM »
News on the proposal to ban crypto in India and jail to 10 years anyone caught holding has quickly circulated in social media and maintream media. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) denied they had anything to do with the proposal but base on their previous stance, they would likely agree to this also. It won't come as a surprise to me it this proposal is signed into law.

What do you think of this proposal? Is the Indian government really moving backwards in not allowing crypto to flourish in their country?

Trading / Price Manipulation?
« on: June 04, 2019, 11:36:19 AM »
Every time BTC pumps or dumps in a short time, many people would cry about whales manipulating the price.

If you come to think of it, they are just traders who happen to have HUGE bags that they can affect the price everytime they make a move like shorting and buying back. There are also many traders who are doing this practice, the difference is that they do not have the bags to move the market like "whales" do.

So is it really manipulation?

Crypto Discussion / Tokens on Binance Chain
« on: May 26, 2019, 02:10:58 PM »
As of now, I only know of a few projects that expressed their support of the Binance Chain and will be migrating to this new blockchain. One of which is one of my long time holdings Equal Token (EQL) - https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/equal/

Any others you know of?

Crypto Discussion / Teams Should Be Quick to Adapt To Changes
« on: May 12, 2019, 11:45:27 AM »
We can all agree that things changes quickly in crypto and those changes could either be beneficial or problematic. As such, blockchain projects (especially the development teams) should be quick to adapt to changes to steer away from possible problems/issues.

Take the Veil team for example, upon learning about the vulnerability in ZeroCoin (which is part of their core protocol), they immediately issued a wallet update to protect all its users. Just recently, they've announced that they'll replace Zerocoin with a new privacy protocol and create a new wallet. According to the team, this is being done to stary true to their mission which is to bring a complete solution to the shortcomings of all existing privacy coins.  Read the full blog at https://veil-project.com/blog/2019-05-09-state-of-veil/?fbclid=IwAR2Zj8qe6R4ZcIg5btDldFp2IVf6LmTUiX-SS-n8oD-BTcXxFLMLa2uEMyg

What Veil has done is pretty decisive in my opinion and should be commended.
