December 7, St. Julian’s will host the event for all those interested in blockchain and cryptocurrencies in terms of business – Blockchain & Bitcoin Conference Malta. Its participants include entrepreneurs, investors, consultants and IT specialists working with blockchain and digital currencies.

The event will be attended by representatives of the Government of Malta. At the beginning of the event, they will make a welcoming speech.

Speakers of the conference are analysts of the cryptocurrency markets; financial and legal experts; blockchain developers; representatives of startups and large companies that use blockchain technology; cryptocurrency and venture investors.

The organizer is Smile-Expo, the company that has already held more than 10 large blockchain events. Blockchain & Bitcoin Conference Malta is a part of the conference network around the world (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kyiv, Tallinn, Stockholm and other cities).

The key topic of the event will be legislation and regulation in the blockchain field. These issues will be also covered during a panel discussion, conducted by the cryptocurrency expert Steve Tendon. Blockchain&Bitcoin Conference will be opened by the Minister of Finance’s Press Secretary Silvio Schembri speaking about how such kind of events can influence the national strategy of blockchain development in Malta.

The conference will reveal other topics as well: cryptocurrency industry in Malta; DCO and smart contracts; challenges of intellectual property; decentralized economy and its global role.

The Government of Malta was one of the first in Europe to announce the introduction of blockchain into state programs (in the Land Register and National Health Registries). Prime Minister Joseph Muscat repeatedly said that digital currency should be introduced at the state and the European Union levels. But business representatives and investors still have a lot of questions about the new technology. In order to help them to find answers, Smile-Expo organizes a conference in St. Julian’s.

On December 7 for the first time, Malta will host Blockchain & Bitcoin Conference. The event opening ceremony will be attended by the Chairman of the Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs Silvio Schembri.

Joseph Muscat, the Prime Minister of Malta, is known for his statement made in front of the leaders of the European Union: “Cryptocurrencies cannot be stopped”. In the country, he promotes decentralized technologies: at the initiative of the prime minister, a working group on blockchain issues was formed, including the representatives of the government and private companies, and in the near future it is planned to introduce blockchain in the land cadastre and the national medical register.

The popularity of blockchain and cryptocurrencies in the world is growing. Early December, the rate of bitcoin exceeded $11 000; large stock exchanges in New York and Chicago introduce bitcoin futures; various countries draft bills adopting or restricting the new technologies. Traditionally, Malta is called one of the top five countries most open to bitcoin.

In December, the Financial Services Agency (MFSA) published a document on ICO, cryptocurrencies and operation companies associated with them. Its results will affect the vector of state policy.

At the beginning of the year, Malta’s Prime Minister, Joseph Muscat, said that Europe should become a “bitcoin continent”, and Malta could turn into a European analogue of the “Silicon Valley”, the center for the new technologies development. Cryptocurrency and the blockchain are also whole-heartedly approved by other members of the Maltese government. Among them are Silvio Schembri, Malta’s Parliamentary Secretary for Digital Economy, and Joseph Cuschieri, Executive Chairman of the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA).

On December 7, St. Julian’s (Malta) hosted Blockchain & Bitcoin Conference Malta, dedicated to cryptocurrencies, blockchain, and ICO. High officials of the Maltese government and co-authors of the national blockchain strategy attended the event.

Around 400 people participated in the conference, including developers, investors, entrepreneurs, representatives of banking and credit institutions, fintech experts, lawyers, journalists. The audience listened to presentations from 20 speakers, and the exhibition area featured 15 companies.

The conference was opened by Silvio Schembri, Parliamentary Secretary for Financial Services, Digital Economy and Innovation within the Office of the Prime Minister Malta.
