EuropeCoin aims to be a building-block of an effort, to educate Europe about the benefits of localization, decentralization and the blockchain technology. Our society and our monetary system will come to a point, where even people, that are presently in power, will have questions. They will ask mostly experts that are lobbying around them. When this time comes you can’t just jump in an claim your thoughts. Lobbying is a skill, that has to be developed and learned and there has to be a network of people, that listen to you. Matthias Klees, lead developer of EuropeCoin declared:
Our organization aims to find people, that are interested and competent enough, to develop expert groups and use the time to mature, learn and finally function in a way, that will be needed in Brussels.
EuropeCoin is not a brand new coin. It is indeed a successful example of community takeover. The primary mission of the coin is to educate people within the EU community, so EuropeCoin that was launched over one year ago perfectly fit the needs. Despite the fact the original developers vanished, the coin still has a wide large of users, that’s because the original design of the parameters was done wisely and implemented with no flaws in the code. The new team announced the takeover at the beginning of 2015. Two month later they released the new platform. Last month they made small fixes and re-branded the wallet. The coin, which ticker is ERC, is traded against BTC on Comkort.
Could you imagine, educating about the idea of decentralized and localized society’s, without blockchain technology and without peer to peer currency? Blockchain technology and a living crypto currency (one, that actually can buy something) have to be the central part of our “social laboratory”. Further we think, localized economies will be important for decentralized society’s. We would like to reflect that, by developing a currency, that blends into the European landscape. Bitcoin, as a global player, would not do the job.
Now the team focuses on a relaxed, but steady development. The whitepaper was published when the team announced the project on BitcoinTalk:
Bitcoin is the greatest innovation of our century. Its blockchain technology gives us a key technology to build a better future. But this future is still yet to be build. This technology is certainly the result of a mindset, far more advanced, that the technology itself. I came to the conclusion, that without this mindset, we will not be able to get the most out of this innovation.
The idea, that any technology will do all the work for us, will produce and hard-code nothing better, than the society, we are currently living in. That said about the challenge, I spent time thinking about, how a crowd of humans as selfish and greedy like me could have a chance to build anything better. And I am sure the way is decentralization – not only technological, but also as we function, think, govern, plan as a society. But specially we in Europe are living in something like the opposite of decentralization. We need a force, a lobby for decentralizing Europe.
So I wanted to build a piece of technology, thats not necessary a technological innovation, but provides a tool for the community, to do the groundwork: To find answers them self and maybe THEN scripting those answers into Blockchains or whatever.
With the goal to foster society-building from the bottom up, EuropeCoin can fill a gap and be the first real Countrycoin. The team will just provide tools and services and a platform as a starting-point. Bitcoin does not solve all problems of humanity, because that’s not its job, but Blockchain-Technology and decentralization are game-changing tools, that may help solving many of them. That’s what has to be promoted to everybody. Building a flat, self-organising community through spreading EuropeCoin, could be a powerful way of opinion making and a lobby for a better future. For this reason, Matthias Klees is inviting all the other countrycoins to settle on this platform and join the work of the EuropeCoin community.
