The global blockchain provider, DECENT, has officially announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the SP Jain School of Global Management, Singapore Campus. The main objective of the MoU is to advance DECENT’s Blockchain Pioneers Hackathon series which is to be held for the first time in Singapore. Both companies attended an official signing ceremony on February 12, 2019, where DECENT’s Founder and CEO, Matej Michalko, and Dr. John Fong, CEO and Head of the Singapore division of SP Jain, both signed the MoU. The formation of the partnership was also supported by DECENT Singapore directors, Isaiah Choo and Alan Yu, as well as several SP Jain staff members.

The MoU outlines the seventh instance of the “Blockchain Pioneers Hackathon” series. This will be the series’ first trip to Southeast Asia, taking place at SP Jain’s Singapore Campus grounds from May 3 to May 5, 2019. The organizing parties declare that the hackathon should appeal to young and talented developers among the school’s students.

DECENT’s multiple-day hackathon series has traversed the globe, impacting cities such as Bratislava, Berlin, USA’s Laramie in Wyoming, Shanghai and Moscow. Each instance has delivered promising project concepts such as fashion garment tracking, event ticketing, animal protection systems, wifi advertisement, and crowdfunding platforms, all running on DECENT’s DCore blockchain. Up to this date, more than 100,000 DCT (DECENT’s own cryptocurrency) has been awarded to hackathon winners.

The two partners plan to announce more details on the hackathon in the upcoming months, with Dr. John Fong of SP Jain elaborating: “At SP Jain, we believe in using technology to shape the minds and sculpt the skills of our students. Hosting this hackathon will enable our students to do exactly that, and I am very excited to see what innovative business models they come up with.”

In previous months, DECENT has been expanding its reach in Asia, solidifying its position on the Asian blockchain market. The company opened a new office in Singapore last August, inside the renowned building known as “The Octagon”, focusing on business development and nationwide adoption.

In addition, a recent ranking conducted jointly by Times Higher Education and the Wall Street Journal placed SP Jain as number 4 worldwide in the One-Year MBA Degrees category, surpassing international giants like the Cranfield School of Management and Melbourne Business School. SP Jain currently has campuses in Dubai, Mumbai, Singapore and Sydney.

According to DECENT’s Founder and CEO, Matej Michalko, both entities hope for their prosperous partnership to bring positive impact, not only on the grounds of organizing the hackathon but also in conducting other future endeavors. “Hackathons are a great way to provide young talents with an opportunity to put their creative genius to practice and evolve their skills. I’m really excited to see what creative outcomes Singapore’s future – the youth – can come up with.”
