Charity Game Freeyourmine Fights Against Landmine Remnants with Blockchain

0

Charity crypto game, Freeyourmine, will be battling against explosive remnants of war (ERWs) through blockchain. The team presented their project at Techstars Startup Weekend which took place in Moscow, Russia, on June 14–16, winning DECENT‘s DCore Challenge.

The Russian team, led by founders Mikhail Chernogorov and Andrey Rutkevich, claims that according to unofficial estimates, 50,000 kmof the planet is covered by minefields, making up for 110 million mines still buried in the ground. The team calls attention to the number of people injured from these mines, raising up to 15,000 per year, with 40% of the affectees being children.

The team has created a charity-oriented game, Freeyourmine, resembling the old-school classic, Microsoft Minesweeper, fitted to utilize the enhancements provided by blockchain technology with one massive difference—players get to pick mines in real life.

By joining the game, players choose from a square of 1×1 meters through an interactive world map—with the initial operating countries being Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. After selecting a particular cell from the map, the player then gets to donate to prompt a demining process carried out by a professional local demining team. The demining team will then check the field for mines and, if successfully found, the player will be rewarded by tokens, rating, and prizes from the partners.

By utilizing the smart contract capability, players are assured that their payments are tracked and instated justly and securely. After players pay for demining, their funds are placed into an escrow account—stored temporarily until both parties fulfill the conditions. The team plans to start clearing the contaminated territories during the third quarter of 2019.

Freeyourmine was awarded DECENT’s DCore Prize at Techstars Startup Weekend Moscow which took place on June 14–16. At the event, the team lead by Mikhail Chernogorov partnered with Pavel Pinchuk of Diadem Network to implement the blockchain solution for their project. The event featured a number of tech gurus from Silicon Valley, investors, mentors, venture consultants and companies such as NKB Group AG500 Startups, and Sberbank 500

Mikhail Chernogorov, Freeyourmine’s Co-Founder, elaborates: “In this day and age, blockchain is becoming one of the most substantial technologies in the world. Prior to establishing this project, we had no knowledge of how versatile and effective this technology can be—and our upcoming game proves this, as well. We are looking forward to seeing people support us in this charitable endeavor and promise to give our players a solid gaming experience. Right now, players can sign up through our website to become one of the first participants and help demine the first minefield.”

Freeyourmine invites the public to support the project through their website to make further development possible. The next plan involves fundraising a seed round of €200,000 to commence with the initial steps for the project to take off.
