The Moincoin to ▲  MOIN swap has ended

The Moincoin to MOIN swap ran for six months from 11th of November 2015 to the 11th of May 2016. Just over 60% of the Moincoin in existence (506690.02643980) was burned in exchange for MOIN at a rate of 1:10, old to new. All remaining unclaimed MOIN (3568555.57259467 in total) was subsequently burned, i.e., sent to a provably unspendable address.

Q. Why can't I send my MOIN to Yobit?

A. The version on Yobit (https://yobit.net/en/trade/MOIN/BTC) is Moincoin (the old version) - hence the difference in price. GOODBYE MOINCOIN

The six month swap from Moincoin to MOIN is now complete. We have one final loose end - someone tried to swap their Moincoin on the 7th of March, but the transaction didn't make it into a block so I've set aside (http://explorer.discovermoin.com/address/MXxKgLfYVZwxUhRHjX3iwthoJFMhXXyH1R) the MOIN they are due based on the balance of the address (http://moincoin.mycoins.xyz/address/MUFcyHuJpvDAwPX9GeFki9qnxAinir3NJ8) that they submitted a valid signature for. So the usable supply has been reduced to just over 6m. I'll contact coinmarketcap and coingecko later today to let them know so they can adjust MOIN accordingly (assuming that's what they do in these circumstances). Thanks to everyone in the community for your patience with the process - I know it started to feel like it dragging on a bit towards the end there, but I think it was worthwhile to ensure the swap was as fair as possible.


ON TO THE FUTURE

Obviously now that we've shed all that dead weight MOIN can become the crypto powerhouse it was always destined to be.  ;) The HD wallets / PoS v3 code is all done. I needed to wait for the exact total of burned coins as it'll be factored into the reward calculation - the 10% per annum will only be based upon the number of actually spendable MOIN in circulation. We'll do a quick round of testing during which our front-end dev will make any tweaks and fixes and then we'll release. PoS v3 will be activated via a hard fork that'll be scheduled for around the end of June in order to give everyone time to upgrade.

After that, our front-end developer will be working on MOIN Lite while I work on what will become our first blockchain-based service. In the mean time I think we should also start giving some thought to funding and promotion.

We're very pleased to announce that MOIN has been added to the next version of the decentralized exchange Bitsquare. Proof of Stake v3

The new wallet implements Blackcoin's PoS v3 from block 282500. There will be 10% static inflation of the total current supply (minus the 3,568,555 MOIN burned after the swap), so the new static stake reward will begin at around 1.26 MOIN per block and increase from there. This means around 1700 MOIN per day will be split between those actively staking. The centralized checkpoint server has been removed.

Hierarchical Deterministic Wallets

Hierarchical deterministic wallets allow you to backup and restore all keys in a wallet from a single seed. The seed is presented to the user in the form of a 24 word mnemonic using common English words.

If you haven't already, please make a backup of your wallet.dat before upgrading. There will be a reindex on first launch which will take maybe 10-15 minutes and after which the wallet will close. You can then open the wallet and resume using it as normal.

This is a mandatory update as there will be a hard fork at block 282500 (around July 1st) for the switch to PoS v3.

First Advanced Blockchain Function - Proof of Existence

For those who of you not familiar with it, it lets you store a cryptographic digest of a file (linked to the time that you submitted it) in the blockchain. New Wallet UI Design

The new MOIN wallet features a completely overhauled UI based on crz's wonderfully designed SDC Umbra client, with a few minor customizations including some nice new status icons from axllht. I think, as with previous versions, we'll continue to put our own stamp on it design-wise over time. In particular axhllt had some good ideas using design elements from the previous client that it would be nice to incorporate.


Encrypted Messenger Upgrade

The second big change in this release is a major upgrade to the decentralized encrypted messenger. The UI has been refined as part of the overall redesign and support for smileys has been added as well as the ability to hold group chats. Gravicons are assigned per MOIN address to make it easier to tell group participants apart if you don't yet have their addresses in your address book. I already have some ideas about we might incorporate it into The Platform.

I'm happy to announce that axllht has officially joined Jookly, crz and myself on the MOIN team. He's been a great help in the development and testing of the latest client and we're very glad to have him on board!

The official block explorer (http://explorer.discovermoin.com/) has been updated to the latest version of Iquidus, which adds Network (sample of recently active nodes) and Movement (list of sizable transactions) tabs.

The OP (https://bitcoingarden.org/forum/index.php?topic=5418.0) in the thread's been updated too - dead links removed, MOIN Team section and links to Nova Exchange added. Crz has recently said he still intends to create MOIN Lite (newcomer friendly, low-resource wallet spin). While there's no time frame for it, I'm very excited about it. The roadmap has been updated to reflect this and our current working goals.
 
I've also created a new Github repo (https://github.com/MOIN/MOIN-Bootstrap) which is updated with an up to date bootstrap.dat file every 24 hours and added a file which is updated every 6 hours with a list of current active nodes (https://discovermoin.com/nodes.txt) to discovermoin.com.

As I've mentioned before, I was a bit pushed for time during the earlier part of the year due to a change in my personal circumstances, but for the next few months it's nothing but MOIN. I'm glad to get back to it.

Fortnightly Sunday Update

Hello all. Not a huge amount to report since the last update was a little late. The twitter price bot temporarily stopped its illustrious spamming as the C-Cex API has been playing up. So I "delisted" them from it. Heh.   ;D

I might put that in the OP. A few people have asked for more information about The Platform recently. Again, I think it's not in our best interests to release information on it for now. This strategy was originally at least partly a reaction to, and a way to try to differentiate us from, the plague of other crypto projects who over-promise and then under-deliver (or don't deliver at all). The continuation of this strategy is pretty well summed up by the above quote. At the moment the relationship between the team and investors is really good because we've always done our best to make clear that we're committed to this for the long-term. If we were to announce our plans with great fanfare too far in advance I think we'd be setting ourselves up for more and more questions in the coming weeks from new traders eager to flip their coins and move on to the next big one. It wouldn't be fun and I'd probably become much less communicative. As it stands we've built a small, friendly community. The enquiries we get are always polite and the people we've attracted are almost all really good-natured. That might not mean much monetarily, but it means a lot to me and it's part of the reason I enjoy working on MOIN so much.

I suppose in a way this strategy is emblematic of not just my, but the whole team's attitude and approach. When there's a choice between an easy option that'll bring MOIN some immediate short-term glory, or a more difficult option that will benefit us more in the long-term, we'll almost always choose the latter. Me, crz and axhllt all share a diligence in the way we go about things. It's not about finishing the work, it's about making something of the highest possible quality. We each put a lot of care and thought into what we do.
 
So me, I've been doing a lot of reading and studying and thinking about design patterns and how to make sure The Platform code will be clean and intelligible to make it easy for other developers to contribute in the future. It's actually axllht who's probably been doing the most exciting work of late - he's been secretly working up potential new designs for both the website and the wallet. Even unfinished they're both looking pretty special and I think the final wallet design in particular will do a lot to help to define MOIN with a personality and style of its own.

That's all for now, talk to you all in two weeks (if not sooner) when I'll probably have to come up with another overly-wordy way of saying "Believe me, we're working on it!"   :)

Fortnightly Update

For a while I've had a clear idea about what form The Platform will take, but I wasn't sure exactly how we'd get there from here. Recently things have really started to crystallize.

The system will have 3 parts. The combination of these 3 parts constitutes what I've been referring to as The Platform. Originally I'd planned for there to be no more significant updates released until the alpha was done. I've now changed my mind, partly because I think incremental development and releases is more efficient and partly because the modularity of the system permits it. It also means a bit less uncertainty for investors.

Having to write these updates has made me more acutely aware of the passing of time and has got me thinking about things like time constraints and their effects on productivity etc. Basically, I'm concerned that without firm targets things might drift or the pace might get a bit too leisurely. Maybe having no firm targets is just as bad as having unrealistic ones. Since each of the 3 parts that make up The Platform can operate independently and provide useful functionality in and of themselves they will be incorporated into the wallet and released as and when each of them is ready. Although I'm not going to give an ETA right now, future updates will include some sort of graphical representation of how much progress has been made towards the completion of each part.

Aside from all this, axllht's been hard at work on designs for the individual tabs of the redesigned wallet and the two of us have also been trying to straighten out some overlapping/inconsistent use of terminology and counter-intuitive categorisation of features in the current design. User experience stuff. For the first time in a while it's felt like we have an actual team working on development and it feels good.

Since there's no clear preference in the poll regarding market alerts I'll try to put together something that'll broadcast via them all. I'll let you know when it's done.

Hello all. I'm in a good flow work-wise and there's lots to do so I'll keep this brief. The above graphic (thanks crz!) shows the estimated progress on the 3 core components of The Platform. They're numbered in the order that I'll be working on and expect to release them. An implicit fourth step will involve combining them. Like "The Platform", "mApp" (MOIN App) is just a term we're using for the sake of the discussion - I don't think we'll use it for the actual finished products.

Over the last two weeks I've fixed our unit tests and have been working on mApp 1 and in between on the sell alert system. The alert system should hopefully be finished in time for the next update. As there's no real consensus as to what constitutes a significant sell order, those receiving alerts via email (and possibly IRC) can specify the trigger amount. Axllht has been busy reworking and refining his wallet design as well as working on revamping discovermoin.com.

In light of the worrying news regarding the British Government forcing companies to put backdoors into encrypted messaging services (https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/theresa-may-internet-conservatives-government-a7744176.html), I'll be giving some thought to ways in which we could extend the privacy-protecting capabilities of MOIN.

Not much to report today. I lost a good chunk of time due to being essentially without internet for about a week. Very frustrating. The alert system is all but done though, I just need to hook it up to Mailgun and run a few tests. I've been working on mApp 1 too but I'm not sure I got enough done to warrant adding another completed step so I've left the graphic as it was for now.

Axllht's made good progress with the website redesign, Jookly's been looking into ways he can use his newly honed skills to contribute and crz got a great deal on the Twin Peaks seasons 1 & 2 blu-ray boxset. So all is well! I'll post again with all the info once the alert system is fully up and running. ¡Hasta luego amigos!

Market Alert System

The Market Alert System is finished. It scrapes exchanges once a minute and posts alerts of new sell orders as long as they are below, equal to, or less than 25% above the current market price (according to coinmarketcap), and involving a certain threshold amount of MOIN. There are several ways to get alerts - @MOINAlerts (https://twitter.com/MOINAlerts) on twitter will tweet about any new sells of 5000 MOIN or more and these alerts will also appear in the #market_alerts channel on Slack. Click here (https://discovermoin.herokuapp.com/) for an invitation.

There's also the option to get email alerts for which you can set your own trigger amount (e.g. 20,000 MOIN). If you'd like to get email alerts send me a message with your email address and the desired amount. I might extend the system to an IRC channel too if there's demand.

I've set what I think are sensible rate limits for it - one tweet per exchange every fifteen minutes and no more than one email every 30 minutes. Given the scarcity of heavy sell orders I don't expect the limits to be hit too often (at least until trading volume picks up). We may need to tweak a few parameters to get it just right. Let me know your thoughts.

As I mentioned in the last update, I've been doing a bit of travelling over the summer. "Gather ye rosebuds" and all that. I had my laptop with me, but to be honest I didn't get much developing done over the last two weeks. It also took me a bit longer than expected to get to where I was going, but I'm here now with desktop reassembled and upgraded and MVP (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimum_viable_product) scrawled on the whiteboard above my desk. It's a good environment to work in and there's nothing to distract me, so I expect the next few weeks to be productive.

Website Redesign

Axxlht's been busy translating his new vision for the official website into code. He brought up the possibility of starting a MOIN wiki for more in-depth technical descriptions of the feature overviews from the site. Obviously I'll help where I can, but ideally this is something it'd be best for other team/community members to take the lead with so that I can focus on development. So if you've got some spare time and are able, please come help us out!

Earlier today on Slack someone asked about an Android wallet. Kopykat's mentioned Coinomi (https://coinomi.com/) in the past and I think a multi-coin wallet like this would be the best option for now. I've put up a poll to gauge demand. If there's enough interest we could maybe use a small portion of the community fund to cover the fees.

Axllht and Jookly are putting the finishing touches to the new discovermoin.com, so it should be live before the next update. It's a thing of beauty.

I was really happy to hear from thecryptocartel this week, who's offered to help us with development - thank you and welcome aboard to him! He already has a paper wallet generator pretty much done! As we get further along with the individual mApps and The Platform the amount of peripheral services we're going to need is only going to increase, so if anyone else in the community has the skills and would like to join us then drop me a message!

I don't think I've ever felt so confident that we can actually pull all this off. It's mostly because of investing in a few relatively low-key but obviously legitimate projects that I'm in a position now to work on MOIN full time. It's nice to think we might do the same for others. Come the next update it might be time to reveal what mApp 1 is. We'll see how things stand. That's enough yapping for now... onwards!

For anyone who missed it, "mApp" 1 will be Proof of Existence & Proof of Ownership. This means you'll be able to prove that a certain file existed at a particular time by including a hash of it in a MOIN transaction. Similarly, you can prove you "owned" the file by including a signature that signs the hash using one of your keys.

I'm currently working on constructing transactions with an appropriate OP_RETURN output (which will contain the file hash), and storing and retrieving an individual user's proofs between sessions. After that, there's the UI and workflow for hashing files/committing proofs to do, tweaking the transaction table and a few other bits and pieces. We'll have to increase the default maximum OP_RETURN tx size at some point too.

mObLOBScHAr has been good enough to offer some of his free time and skills to helping out on the development side and has begun writing a block parser that'll be able to index OP_RETURN transactions. The plan is for this to form the basis of a site that'll allow people to browse and verify proofs via the web.

I knew I was tempting fate by saying the new website should be finished before the time of this update. It's not, but will be soon.


Axllht has done a mountain of work on the new website and the next wallet design. Jookly put together the MOIN movement and has showed the patience of a saint answering all the questions from noobs. Vella's been singing our praises on Twitter for months. Cryptocartel and mObLOB have just recently offered to pitch in, crz made the above graphic, ilog picked up the SDC facebook group for us, and I spend hours every day working on the code (and my Sunday nights writing these updates to keep everyone informed). Our market cap is over 30x what it was 12 months ago and these are the people making your money grow. It may seem like we move slowly sometimes, but we're a modestly-sized team with big ambitions and no multi-million dollar ICO fund to piss away. To be blunt, it's fucking hard work at times... but we are getting there.

So if you have a stake in the project and think you can help in any way then don't hesitate to come forward. I'm beginning to feel like one of those TV charity appeal adverts repeating this every time ... "for only 7 dollars a month you can help change the life of an occasionally dispirited cryptocurrency developer" ... but that's how a project like this will achieve big things in spite of the resource gap. If everyone with a stake in MOIN was to devote a few hours each week to helping move it forward, I've no doubt we'd get to where we're headed a lot sooner. So I'm going to keep trying to coax others out of the shadows. When Dogecoin started they developed a huge and rabidly fanatical community as a straight Litecoin clone backed only by a meme. I'm not suggesting we can do the same, but I see no reason why we shouldn't be making some efforts to grow the community now while development is ongoing. But I don't have the time to spearhead that and develop too. So it's up to you guys.

There's been a bit of upheaval in my life these last two weeks. I'm in the process of moving house, so I've been busy sifting through possessions, thinking about the future - and I've found myself doing something similar with MOIN. Re-evaluating, recalibrating... "sharpening the axe".
The strategies and approaches that have served us well up to now aren't necessarily the ones that will serve us best going forward. Specifically, amongst other things, I'm considering outsourcing development of mApp2 to allow me to work on mApp3 once PoE is done. I'll let you all know when a decision's been made.

Thanks too to Jookly for organising it all - and in fact to the whole team, because since mentioning feeling like we were lacking in the marketing department it feels like everyone involved has contributed in one way or another on that front. Hello out there Moin cryptommunity.  I figured since this is my first time giving and being responsible for the fortnightly update I would start it off by just saying so. So what happened in the last two weeks with Moin?
Preparing Reddit
The team has been working on getting the r/MOIN subreddit prepared for its grand opening.  Axllht has been beautifying it to match the new websites style.  I have been getting a tipbot ready for the subreddit.  Everyone has been pitching in to test the bot.  It will be great to open this subreddit to the public when it is ready.  I am really looking forward to it!
What Is KingCaper Doing?
Whats the big guy up stairs doing?  This week he has needed to take time to work on a non-roadmapped task that will bring a host of benefits to Moin as we continue in to development of THE PLATFORM.  I will leave it at that and up to him for revealing details on this when the time is right.
Moin Community Contributors League
We had a really constructive discussion through the unified Moin chats about the need for more marketing and community engagement.  One actionable item we landed on is the resurgence of something older moiniacs might remember from when we were mostly on irc.  The idea is the Moin Community Contributors League.  The basic idea is to have weekly competition and rewards for promoting Moin.  We will reveal more details on this soon.
Bounty Program
The second item that came out of our discussion was that we can offer bounties for specific projects, then have people sign up for and accomplish those projects.  We will begin facilitating this process soon.  A couple examples of the types of bounties we are talking about here might begetting an article written about Moin or getting a really tight t-shirt design made.  We still have coins that should go to a T-shirt designer.  We will figure out how to make this happen.

Fortnightly Sunday Update #15

Has it been two weeks already?  Let's take a look at what has been going on behind the scenes with MOIN.

Reddit Tipbot Stabalized

We had a kind of funny incident where the day we started testing a seemingly final version of the bot reddit changed their api output!  The bot we are working with uses a library that was incompatible with the new reddit api responses.  What was really amazing was that within 10 hours of the problem the beautiful open source community provided a fix! So long story short the reddit tipbot for our upcoming subreddit seems to be functioning well now. 


King Caper Works On PART Fork

King Caper announced this week that the task diverting him at the moment away from development of the platform is working on how to correctly fork the PART code base.  MOIN will eventually swap over to this codebase which will provide a plethora of benefits for future development.  The specifics of the swap are still to be determined.


Birthday Subbreddit Launchtacullar?

November 4th marks the anniversary of this thread OP and as such is in a way the 2nd birthday of MOIN 2.0.  Although we can't make a super special pinky promise we are hoping to be able to coincide this date with the launch of the new subreddit and the opening of signups for the Moin Movement League.  It will be really nice to open up MOIN discussions on reddit and interact with the larger crypto currency community there.

So November 4th is the day we started this thread and as such is the day we celebrate as MOIN's birthday, so happy birthday everyone! Much love and thanks to everyone on the team and the whole community. I think we all deserve to be proud - there are many, many coins that never made it this far. We have two years' worth of experience and learning under our belts, and some big plans for (and possible changes coming) in the future. We're just getting started. Cheers everyone!

Hello everyone.  Time for another brief MOIN fortnightly update.  We will take a look at the submissions so far in the ongoing raffle, check in with the team, and as always encourage you to come get involved. Let's get going!

Laptop raffle update

The laptop raffle is half way through submissions now and so on the next bi weekly update we will be announcing a winner!  I thought it would be nice to tally up the submissions so far and share them with you all.  So far there have been 32 transactions that have bought a total of 213 tickets. Not too shabby!

Moin paper wallet design

Some folks were interested in a paper wallet and Axllht wanted me to pass along that he gave the MOIN touch to a design this week that he hopes to have ready very soon.  It looks great and just needs to be wired into the paper wallet generator code.

Laptop raffle results

I am very happy to announce that signup for the Moin Movement League are now open!  This is a throwback to our IRC days when we used to have weekly tasks people would complete and then the top contributors get rewarded in MOIN.  We came up with some basic tasks to get this period started you can check them out @ http://www.moinmovement.org/movement-league.html (http://www.moinmovement.org/movement-league.html) . Moin Movement League Update

In our first two weeks of the Moin Movement League we had 8 signups and as a surprise reward we hooked everyone who signed up with the 1st place reward this week.  Really appreciate people taking the time to sign up and had a couple good discussions this week about improving the league /moin movement.  I added a simple roster/leader board to the page http://www.moinmovement.org/movement-league.html (http://www.moinmovement.org/movement-league.html).  Over the next two weeks we will try this experiment out and see if we can get some progress made in regards to the league itself and other moin community building/marketing.

Moin Setup and Staking Guide

Check out this great write-up by moiniac extraordinaire Treefrog about setup and staking for MOIN. https://www.reddit.com/r/Moin/comments/8i18rf/moin_client_v1200_setup_guide_and_staking_guide/  It is a really nice guide and will be perfect for teaching people now and building off of in the future.  Great job Treefrog and thank you!

Discord Tipbot

We got a basic tipbot working in the discord channel.  Come say hi, spin around, do a trick, and get some free Moin.  Actually it is just a nice way to reward people to hanging out, asking questions, helping with various things... It is nice to have this tip bot running and it will be good to add additional functionality to it in the future as well.  Stop by for a tip!

Moin Movement Steam Gaming Group

There is now a Moin Movement Steam gaming group.  It is open to anyone interested in MOIN and computer gaming.  We will be using this group as a way to build community playing games together.  It would also be really cool to use the features of the steam group to arrange some gaming events for MOIN.  You can check out and join the group @ https://steamcommunity.com/groups/moinmovement (https://steamcommunity.com/groups/moinmovement)

Moin Movement League Update

The second two weeks of the Moin Movement League are now concluded.  We gained an additional 4 signups this period.  Gathering the data to do these rewards I basically look through the $MOIN mentions on twitter and see who that has signed up for the league was active. I also try to check and see what types of activity the participants have had on reddit or activity in our Chatroom. Based on that information I rewarded 5 different participants 250 MOIN this period who showed activity.  Congratulations to them all and thank you for your work.

Ok I am a few days late here with this fortnightly update.  The holiday weekend took hold of me.  Let's check out what was up in the last two weeks of MOIN.

Moin deposits and withdrawals reopen on Cryptopia

I know a lot of people were waiting on this and I am happy to say Cryptopia reopened their MOIN wallet for movement.  Good job to the MOIN community being patient and polite through that process.  No matter what coin or exchange you are dealing with remember that you introduce a third party risk by keeping your coins anywhere but under your direct control via private key.

Moin Movement League Continues

This was the third installment of Moin Movement League and its still going well I think.  Signups have dropped off a lot but participation has remained fairly consistent and I truly thank everyone who is taking the time to tweet, post on reddit, or just stop by with and idea or suggestion to the chat room.  Signups are open @ http://www.moinmovement.org/movement-league.html  .  Join us!

Moin Movement League Website Development

Working on creating a system for tracking and rewarding peoples social media participation in a more scaleable way than our current situation.  This is very much a work in progress and if you are interested in helping or have ideas definitely top by our chatroom and say hi http://www.moinmovement.org/communicate.html  . I appreciate the people who have helped test it or used it so far. I think we should be able to use the website for Moin Movement League operations soon.

Moin Movement League Payouts

Moin Movement League Updates

The Moin Movement League beta site @ https://moinmovement.net has been updated with some additional functions.  These include a hero point/award tracker, activity feed, updated verification section, and 2 week phase tracker, basically the things we have discussed if you are following the conversation.  We are continuing forward with feedback and community driven development on this website and invite anyone interested to join in testing.  The best place to do so is through our chatrooms which you can find listed at http://www.moinmovement.org/communicate.html  I want to extend a very genuine thank you to everyone that has been participating in this process.

Moin Movement League Payouts

We are getting close to being able to move all the way over to tracking participation via the new https://moinmovement.net website.  This week I am going to payout to all addresses that helped with the testing by testing the new registration and events.  I will take care of those payouts after I finish posting this to various places. I am looking forward to basing a payout on the scores from the website in one of our upcoming phases.

Moin Movement League

I'm pretty stoked to see participation up on the Moin Movement Leave website @ https://moinmovement.net .  We are definitely seeing an increase in general participation, both number of participants and engagement per participant.  I hope people are having fun or finding it interesting or just excited to receive some MOIN for participating.  All are welcome.

We only did some minor updates over this phase format wise but most of the design work is in progress. Axlht and I are in talks on regular basis about how the next design will look and I am excited to work towards bringing that vision into reality.

The distribution scheme for the payouts has been adjusted.  The first version was just some examples I took from a billards tournament but it was not going to be flexible enough for our needs.  The new payout schedule did reduce the reward for maybe the top two or three spots this phase but don't worry, I will just pay out whichever would have been higher this time <3 .

Moin Movement League

Currently the best kept secret in crypto  ;) .  A BIG thanks to everyone participating so far.  Activity was up again this phase and the competition is looking good.  We also had a few new registrations.  There have also been some updates to the website and tasks during this phase. 

Here are some adjustments that were made such as changing the points awarded for certain events and adding additional events. Things are changing fast so my apologies if I neglect to mention some change.

What is up Moinarinos, hope you are all doing well out there.  Two weeks ago was the last fortnightly update.  Two weeks is a fortnight.  Well you can see where I am going with this.... ITS THE MOIN FORTNIGHTLY UPDATE!

Moin Movement League Phase 4

It wouldnt be a REAL Moin fortnightly update unless I start it out with the Moin Movement League portion now would it.  This week the competition was fierce as usual, a big thanks to everyone involved.  Many participants have been doing a great job reporting issues they are experiencing and just generally troubleshooting. I think everyone has been pretty happy with the payouts and I went ahead and sent the ones for Phase 4 before beginning on this write up.  The phases just continue one after another so Phase 5 has already begun. This is a really great time to participate in the moin movement league, you can even get a nice stakeable size stack of MOIN just by participating for a couple phases.

I don't have a giant list of changes this phase but have been plugging away at what I guess we can call version two of the front end.  It is going to look a lot better but instead of tease you I will just get it done and show you in a few days.

We Want More Info!!

People ask me all the time for some more information about what is going on with MOIN.  I tell everything I know every two weeks in this update and for quite some time all the content has been around the movement league.  So I have struggled in a way on how to report on this lack of updates.  I don't want every update to include some sort of apology for there being no further info but I also want to address it occasionally. Hence this paragraph. :)

Moin Movement League Phase 5

This phase saw a big update to the moinmovement.net website.  This is probably version 2 to be honest.  It has a full new front end and a bunch of back end changes as well.  We even have page refresh and logout technology now, amazing I know....  Participation has been steady but not increasing over this period which is perfectly ok, there is lots of details to get right still so when the group that is participating is larger, everything moves forward smoothly.  If you find any problems with the site, or are just interested in helping build a really awesome website related to a cryptocurrency, or if you want to help support MOIN, or if you just want some MOIN in exchange for some social media activity, check it out, your feedback is always appreciated.

Reminder About Being Smart With Exchanges And Trading

Please be careful and smart out there folks.  Before you buy anything from any exchange EVER verify that the item you are buying is exactly what you think it is and that you can do with it what you want to be able to, such as sending/recieving.  Also, never take pricing data for granted, always double check primary sources and make efforts to understand reality of a situation before making decisions. I am asked to make this type of reminder due to the high price volatility reported for MOIN recently on coinmarketcap.  One contribution to this is that c-cex does not allow people to sign up. This prevents arbitrage which means the price there is largely irrelevant as the spread between it and other MOIN exchanges has no way of correcting any pricing imbalance.

Option Number Two Looking Strong

Taking a look at the feedback and the poll on the bitcointalk thread it seems that option 2, which is to clone PART's codebase and swap MOIN to that new blockchain, has the most support.  If you missed the post with the options you can see it @ https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1237881.msg44071876#msg44071876 .  You can leave your input across any MOIN community communication channels http://www.moinmovement.org/communicate.html .  An final decision has not totally been made in this but it would seem we are on path for option 2.

Moin Movement League Phase 6

Axlht has been kind enough to be working out a more elaborate and cool looking logo for our Moin Movement League.  I am proud to present to you the next iteration in that design.

Progress Forking PART Code

I am happy to report that KingCaper has been making progress with forking the PART codebase.  This is just one step in the most likely long overall process which will become the swap.  Certainly a lot more work to done across this process but there were many updates were I was not able to report this type of activity.  It is good to be moving.  Walk before you run.  Third generic encouragement line! :)


Moin Movement League Phase 7

If you don't know yet, you might soon.  That is the feeling I get about the moin movement right now.  Check out https://www.reddit.com/r/Moin/comments/96kaun/moinmovementnet_setup_guide_and_faq/ if you need some basics.  Phase 7 saw another all time high in participation, both in number of users as well as overall social media activity.  Generally the website development is going well too.  I have been working towards introducing "contests", which should add a nice new element to the game.  Not much has actually changed on the website this week though.  I did notice one thing, which is that if a person has a private Twitter account the API does not have access to retrieve their tweets.  Something to keep in mind if you notice your tweets not getting counted.

Wallet Work Status

KingCaper successfully compiled the daemon and QT Wallet which will eventually become the base of our new PART codebase.  Still need to generate a new genesis block, MOINify the interface for the wallet.  Also still lots of planning steps to do and discussion to be had to nail down all the specifics of what we as a community would like to see happen through this upcoming process. More info in next section.

Discuss The Swap

It's a good time to talk about brainstorm and pick apart ideas you might have related to the swap.  This is OUR swap as a community so it is up to US to decide what we really want to do.  Don't be afraid of letting your ideas out.  How would you like to see the swap be handled in relation to our relationship we can have with the PART community?  Any creative ideas on how to increase interconnect among projects and communities.  I've seen suggestion of something like airdropping some MOIN to PART holders.  Get in to our social media channels and discuss whatever comes to mind.

A Sort Of Swap Summary

I would like to try and clarify some specifics about the eventual swap and where the team has made it in the process. What we would like to do eventually is fork (ie. clone) the current PART code base and start a new chain from block zero.  We would then like to give people the opportunity to convert their MOIN over to the new chain at some ratio.  In regards to the specific ratio it is currently undecided. Be sure to leave your input and discuss.  In terms of additional progress this fortnight we have begun construction of the eventual swap website and we have also begun gathering information for and contacting exchanges to make them aware of the upcoming plans. Hello out there MOIN family and friends.  My name is Jookly.  You have found the MOIN fortnightlight update 38.  How nice.  The goal with these is to just simply summarize a bit of what occurred within the world of MOIN in the last two week period.  In general the MOIN networks main goals and efforts have been focused on organizing and progressing the swap, let's take a look at that and anything else that pops up.  (No ads though)

Whats Poppin' With The Swap Son?

The collaboration is real.  KingCaper is doing things related to actually preparing the "new" chain.  He posts tables with lots of numbers on them, if you want to get on that level talk to him I'm sure he would love to hear from you.  Simultaneously others are preparing logistics that will be required to actually accomplish this swap.  Think of a big check list related to who needs to be contacted, what needs to be done, leading up to during and after the swap.  One objective that is also seeing specific progress this week is what will eventually become the swap website, big shout out the Severus on his work there.

Moin Movement League Phase 10

Numbers are cool.  Lot's of reasons that is true but what is on my mind right now is that we just completed Moin Movement League Phase 10... Whoa.  That means we have given out 15,000 MOIN over the last 20 weeks.  There are 23 Twitter accounts being tracked for activity.  Fun fact: this phase getting 49 points resulted in 49 MOIN.

The competition was fierce as usual on the mean MOIN movement league streets. Payouts have been sent and phase 11 is on!

C-Cex Exchange Announced MOIN Delisting
MOIN is going to be delisted from C-Cex.  According to them it will be no longer listed as of December 1st. It's for the best, they've been arbitrarily locking customer accounts for some time now. If you have any MOIN on there you have until the 1st of December to withdraw them. If you have some over there make sure you withdraw.

Moin Movement League Phase 14

Phase 14 saw a large overhaul on the layout of the site. Big shout out to Robust for his design additions.  So far the feedback has been positive.  It was time for a switch up visually and also as the site's features and the way it is used become more clear so does the ways to best organize it.  I have a lot of ideas on how to continue improving the league and we will get to them step by step!

Swap Website Progress

The swap website crew (Severus and I) made a little progress at the beginning of this phase.  Essentially getting to the point of a login demo.  Before we really get going on the swap we need to have a nice smooth platform in place.  We have been trying to divide the work into front end and back end parts. I enjoy it and I like working with Severus.  As with a lot of passion and spare time work it can be slow but I really am excited with each bit of progress.

Hello!  It is that time again.  I am the Moin "community manager" and this is the Moin fortnightly update.  In case you are new we just try to touch base once ever two weeks regardless of what is going on.  If there is news this is where it will be, it's also an opportunity to say hello and repeat our social media links for those that may not be aware of them.

Vella's Asks About The Swap

Long time Moin supporter Vella asked "I know KingCaper isn't one for roadmaps however is there any estimate time frame this year for when the swap will take place? I think it is a good time to announce something on the swap as the year just started. 2018 was a bad year for crypto and a lot of projects didn't do much including MOIN so I'm hoping that we see something this year with this project. "

It's a very reasonable question so I want to try and explain this as clearly as possible. 

MOIN is a 100% open source and community driven project.  It is literally up to us, the community, to produce anything.  Even our lead developer KingCaper can be thought of as a member of the community.

The answer is that no one is working on a roadmap right now.  What several people are working on is producing a website to facilitate the swap and also the work related to actually creating the new chain that the coins will be swapped to.  This progress comes in waves as people have time to put toward the project.  I don't see anything stopping us from getting it accomplished but setting a specific deadline would not increase our productivity and would almost certainly lead to disappointment if the deadline was not reached. 

Really appreciate your question Vella and I hope this answer suffices for now.

Moin Movement League Phase 16

Moin Movement is a website I have been building with the help of the community over the last year.  The idea is to reward participants for various things. Ranging from being active in our discord chat, or posting in our subreddit, or tweeting with certain tags attached.   You can check it out at moinmovement.net.  This phase we began testing our contest module.  The first contest generated a couple of entries and was essentially just a test of our format to make these contests.  If you are interested in participating please check out our social media channels listed in the next section.  We are always happy for new ideas.

Howdy MOINers.  Its fortnightly update day.  Did you catch that MOIN commercial on the Puppy Bowl?  It was right between the one with the lizard buying stuff off OpenBazzar and the one saying that Litecoin doesn't have and corn syrup in it.  I'm joking of course! Isn't it good to laugh together?  Alright let's get this update over with.

KingCaper Makes A Direction Changing Decision

KingCaper has made a decision which changes the plans regarding the swap to the PART codebase.  I suspect this news will be a bit jarring to some people. I know I was surprised myself.  I think it is my duty however to report this regardless of how uncomfortable it is, and so I will explain what he told me.

About MOIN he says that he would like it to be "as successful as possible".  He does not see this goal being accomplishable by cloning PART.  He says "The only way I see this happening is if we do something completely original", or at least, "something original enough to be noteworthy" . 

He claims he will start by "prototyping it in Python first before implementing it properly in a lower-level language". 

This will still, if things go well, eventually lead to a swap so the work that Severus and I have been doing on the swap website has not been in vain.

I hope I have explained this well enough.  I encouraged KingCaper to help by personally explaining some of his decision as well, so maybe that will happen.  Feel free of course to discuss and ask questions.


Moin Movement League Phase 17

Moin Movement League is going strong and I am still improving the site.  It is a very easy way to get a bit of MOIN so if you would like to participate please do. There are lots of activity that is rewarded and we are steadily adjusting the parameters of the "game" based on feedback.  I really appreciate everyone that is a part of this as it has been and continues to be a very great learning experience.  There is no end in sight for this so feel free to swing by and get involved!

How To Find Other MOINers

It's a me Jooklio back again with another MOIN fortnightly update. Very little info for you this round, but none the less, I am here to give you the info. I am feeling tired so am going to keep it quick and factual :)

Moin Movement League Phase #18

MOIN league phase 18 was pretty regular but it did culminate in some changes to the awards.  It turns out that over time we have learned that tweets are worthless essentially.  Tweets with#bemoin and #moinmovement have been removed.  $moin tweet rewards have been reduced to one a day and point value reduced to 2 hero points. We can't stop people from spamming useless junk but we can stop rewarding them.  I think it is a good change.  Feel free to express if somehow this wasn't a good move.  Phase 18 payouts have been sent.

MOIN league phase 19 payouts have been sent.  The changes we implemented for this phase seemed to be well received.  My focus has mostly been on trying to improve the administration components lately. Wow 20 phases complete!  Thats 40 whole weeks of MOIN filled goodness straight to your dome.  That means we have given out 30,000 MOIN in that time period. Cool! The Moin Movement League still has a ton of room for improvement so if you have any ideas feel free to swing by our chatrooms and let me know. 

This phase CoffeeMaker helped by making an updated logo for the login page!  A very nice and helpful effort!

Fortnightly Update #53

Hello out there my Moin friends. First things first. I missed a couple updates.... No real good reason.  I just was feeling distracted by irl stuff and was a little burnt out from posting updates with very little info. I'm happy to be feeling better and back in the update mood now though.  A little fresh air and good weather can really help a lot.  OK lets do this thang.

Moin Movement Payouts On Schedule

Although I did take a little break from posting these updates the Moin Movement League and the payouts has continued uninterrupted.  I love our group of people who participate on this and am still looking forward to growing the software to be more interesting, entertaining and robust.  It is a really nice little way to get some Moin for simple participation like chatting in our discord or other social media activity.  If you want to check it out go to www.moinmovement.net or hit us up in our chat room for more info.

King Caper Continues His Studying

I was stoked when i logged in today to see that KC had continued posting some questions and updates on his progress on bitcointalk while I was on my little break.  It looks like he is learning about some big topics related to software architecture and is always looking for feedback and direction.  MOIN is still a very open ended project and new ways of thinking or creative solutions to problems is always great.  Like a delicious meal MOIN is best cooked very slowly.

Updated Twitter Price Ticker

I updated the script that produces the price ticker which is tweeted daily by the @moincrypto account.  It had the cryptopia price on it and so I removed that price and replaced it with coinexchange.io .  I think this change will help correctly represent MOIN exchange offerings and alleviate any confusions that could be caused by cryptopia. I noticed a couple other places that this change needs to be reflected as well and will try to get that taken care of this week.

Game Jam?
We have been talking in the chat about trying to put together a game jam with a MOIN prize.  We are just starting to discuss the details of this event so if you have any experience or ideas in the are feel free to drop in and participate.
